Translation Test

Hello Church,

As I announced on Sunday, I am going to try preaching from a different translation of the bible for a few months.  I have been looking for a different translation for quite some time.  As you may remember I tried preaching from the ESV (because it’s fantastic) but I struggled reading it out loud while preaching.

The Holmon Christian Standard Bible (HCSB) seems to have the values I like in the ESV but more readable.  The HCSB is quite a new version and I wouldn’t be surprised to discover that our church is the first church in Scotland to take up this version.

Does this mean we all need to rush out and buy HCSB’s?  Not necessarily.  Lets see how it goes first and see if we like it enough to keep using it long-term.  I continue to use different versions for my read through, and at church the words will be on the screen.

Here is a brief introduction video to the HCSB.

Ceiling Painting

We felt painting the ceiling ourselves was a bit over our head.  So after saving for a few months it is great to get these guys in to paint it for us.

They brought in these narrow profile scaffolding towers that wobble too much for my comfort.  It is happening but I can’t watch.  So great to see things continue to move forward, while the church continues to grow!

Organ Done

Quicker and cheaper than I would have ever expected, we finished painting the organ pipes today.  Kellie and I spent a few hours on my day off pulling it apart.  Tuesday we painted the pipes (it only took 2 hours.)  Today Scott and I put it all back together.  Wouldn’t have done it without Kellie.  Couldn’t have done it without Scott.  Thanks also goes out to Mark, Stephen, and Kirsty who helped at strategic moments.

I don’t remember the course ‘Organ Painting’ from my days in seminary.  Both Scott and Kellie kept saying things like, “Did you ever think we would paint an organ someday?”  I guess you never know what fun challenges are around the corner.

8 Years in Scotland

This month marks 8 years living in Scotland.

Thank you to all our faithful donors who believe in global missions and have invested in the Kingdom work in Glasgow. The LORD has been so good to us and we are filled with joy.

Church Office

'Before' Picture of the Vestry.

Extra rooms in the new church building are limited, but we were determined to come up with a creative solution to squeeze office space into the church.

This Summer we moved our church offices from rented space in Partick into the church, saving hundreds of pounds a month.  The Vestry off the main entrance has become a wee office space for administrative stuff, filing cabinets, the printer, office storage, and message-review on Sundays. During the week we have tables in the sanctuary for staff meetings, team planning, and just simple working.

It has come together nicely, just in time for a busy Autumn of ministry. We were hoping to achieve a more ‘open door’ feel at the building during the week, and so far it’s working.  People are dropping by the church, working, planning, doing ministry, building refurbishment, cleaning, chatting, etc.   Life is filling the place.

Here are some ‘After’ pics of the wee vestry office.  I caught some of Sarah putting together the service folders for Sunday.

4 Baptisms at Loch Lomond on Saturday.

BBQ and Baptism on the banks of Loch Lomond this past Saturday.  Roger, Rosie, Max, & Jake.  Buried with Christ, raised to new life.  Always such a fantastic moment to witness.  Blessings on these 4.
